1985 FXSB Low Rider Sturgis
#21
Thanks for sharing the VIN, that tells us it left the factory as a 1985 FXST ;
1HD 1 BH L 1 8 F Y 016845
1HD = Manufactured for sale in the US
1 = Heavyweight (greater than 901cc)
BH = FXST
L = 1340 Evolution engine
1 = Domestic (Normal Introduction)
8 = check number
F = 1985
Y = York, PA
016845 = serial number specific to this bike
Here are the basic specs:

Still a cool bike to some, as there were few Harleys with both an EVO engine & the 4-speed w/kick starter. I just don't think they came from the factory with a blacked out engine.. If you could post the EIN (engine identification number) we should be able to tell what bike it came from... The EIN will be on the primary side of the engine, between the two cylinders, on the engine case.

It's an 84 or 85 softail, DO NOT believe that's the real mileage, speedo has been replaced, been painted and from the pictures it's been run hard and not cared for. Figure it's a $5000 machine top end if it has a harley title and matching numbers frame & motor. Toss any notion of blue book values some will toss around in here, worthless on that machine in that condition.

Engine number; BH L F 016845
BH = FXST
L = 1340 Evolution Engine
F = 1985
016845 = The serial numbers that match the VIN serial numbers on the bike it was installed in at the factory (which happen to match the VIN serial numbers on your bike)
OK, that is the engine that came in that bike from the factory...
As many have stated, it's in really poor shape. Even though it's a cool year/model Harley at it's heart, it would cost more to get it into good shape than it would be worth...
If the sentimental value was high, and you could do the work yourself, it might be a good project to get into "rider" condition and enjoy the bike...
Otherwise, you can put it up for sale and see what interest it draws....
Hopefully your friend got his money's worth out of it..!
