Hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend.
I found some matching rotors for cheap to put on the dual disc.
Not quite what I wanted but will do for now.
The calipers I have were for the FXR but plans have changed. I like the way it turned out. Here's some pics.

it looks good. mind me asking why you went dual disk? was it for safety reasons? either way, it's different and looks bad azz. what did you do to get that low in the front? are you running 2 under tubes?

Tartarus 09-07-2009 10:50 PM

Man all of you NT guys have made me want to try some apes
I took my first real long ride since installing the z bar and it starts to hurt the shoulder and clutching with it that far up at that angle makes me really want a foot clutch
Only thing is I don't know how high I would want. Any ideas Im 6'1"

Thanks
That front rim was originally for a road king (dual disc) I had been eyeballing it for a while wondering how it would look on my bike.
Earlier this year I had nailed a pot hole and ruined my 21". A couple of weeks prior to hitting the pot hole the guy had discounted this rim.
I figured I've got all the stuff minus the rotors, i'll just make this a dual disc eventually. So I went and got it.
To make a short story long, doing something different.
Running two under tubes with the lowering kit. Can't remember who brought it up but they also have the 4 under tubes at bkrider.
If I were to do it over I'd get the 4 under instead of hasseling with the lowering kit.

It's way more comfortable than the drag bars for me anyway.
Don't get that burning sensation in my shoulders that I used to when riding with the drag bars.
Got them for looks but it was plus when I realized just how much more comfortable it was on the long rides.
I've got 16s on mine and I'm 6'.

calbertson 09-08-2009 02:06 AM

My springer is the DNA 2'' over. Had to have a bracket fabbed up to keep the stock brake and move it to the right side. The pic is prior to the tire being rotated so it is rotating the correct direction. It uses a 3/4 axle which i got new bearings from harley to fit then had the spacers made to get all the alignment correct. Still got some adjustment to do on the torque arm off of the brake bracket to get the correct angle for braking but its gonna have to wait till i get back from iraq. im getting tired of paying for parts to get fabbed that i can make myself. My dad has been nice enough to put all my parts on for me while i have been gone and i cant wait to get back and take her for a spin.

i also have 16s. they sit on 1-1/2" risers. i'm 5'10". much better than drag bars. i used to have the street slammer style bars.

oregonkickstart 09-08-2009 12:00 PM

My apes are 14" rise. I am 5-10 or 5-11 depending on whether I slouch or not... My hands are just above my shoulders. Much better than the stock drags. I have 1 1/2" tall fat risers (1 1/4" dia.)

Me either. Five years in the Navy and I was shore dutied the whole time. I, fortunately, volunteered for a West Pac on the Tarawa and had the time of my life. It would have really sucked to have just spent all those years on the shore.

Thank you everyone who is still out there taking care of us in all the armed forces.

The only downside for me was being away from those I cared about and not being able to ride.

oh man. you were on the terrible tarawa too? that's the ship i was on last year. it has since been decommissioned. actually it wasn't a bad ship, just horrible blue/green relations. unfortunately, i get the feeling this next pump will be even worse. anyone ever heard of liquid F.O.D.? lol, what a joke.

Damn. The Tarawa was almost a new ship, maybe 5 years old when I was on it. It makes me feel old to learn it has been decommissioned. :(

Looks pretty sweet from what I can see. I would love to see some far away shots, and some shots from the side. I really like this idea, since a car tire might last alot longer. Then again, it might wear faster, leaning it in curves all the time. Would like to talk to someone who has had one on their bike for awhile. Thanks for the link!!

Finally got some pics of his NT with the CT on it.

I think it looks damn good. He says it rides great on wet or dry pavement and his rear brake is 100% better. Of course traction is also greatly improved. Probably couldn't do much of a burn out with it on there. Depending on the make and model of the tire; some people are getting over 50k miles out of 'em.

refuzeandrezizt 09-09-2009 11:25 PM

Thanks for the pics man. I think it looks fine, bike just needs to be lowered a little. I figure I have a little time left to decide, as my tire is not bald yet. I am still debating the trade for the Street Glide also, so who knows. May be trading it before I have to worry about it.

Are you registered on the darkside forum? I have done it twice and still have not received the approval email.

Yeah. They got hacked and none of them are all that computer savvy.

I think you would really like the SG. Everyone I talk to loves them. I'd like to have one of each. Well I guess I already do. I've lowered the FLHT and taken off all the crash bars, etc. It's basically an early SG. I call it a Night Glide. You can see it in my profile if you want.

I test rode a 09 a couple months ago and really liked it. I like the idea of having the goodies, but hate to have to part with the NT. Wish I could afford both. I am over on my Train though, so trading is out for a bit. I am thinking about trying to sell it locally myself, and get what I can get out of it. It would still be better than the 12K the dealer offered.

I will check out your pics man.

just recently lowered my bike, put new rubber all around and powder coated the risers and lower fork legs (and front axle nut covers that aren't installed in the pics)...still a work in progress. Would love to find a nice black headlight.

They run 'em through the dragon's tail all the time. I'll give you a full report when I put one on next year. I hope it's next year anyway. I put way more miles on my bagger than NT. Maybe I'll make a point of changing that a little so I can put one on sooner.

She likes the seat. It was HER first long trip. I think since she was excited so much that it did not bother her. First day was 11 hours so she was alright. On the way back she was okay to but this winter I am sending both my seat and hers to get redone. My seat needs gel in it. It is a OK seat but for the long hauls I pull..... it blows. I also had to redo the sissy bar on the Heartland second seat. I added 5 inches of roundbar to it, make it a lill more comfy. I also dumped the rear pegs and put them on the struts. She loves her GYNO pegs because she can stretch her legs out and rest them on the pegs.
Story It was a good trip and I was glad to make it back safe. I can not stand passing people that are weaving and then as I pass them I see them freakin texting. I wanted to throw my knife at them.
