if it has H4 bulb, perhaps this bulb ( or similar highpower/high quality one ) would help ?
Also a known trick from car world is to put separate relays for lights only, and new thicker/better wiring directly from battery, to get all volts to the bulb.
As even a small voltage drop makes a difference.
Don't know what kind of wiring is used in HDs from factory.
With better wiring and dedicated relays, the results should be good. Read this to get more info :

Also worth noting is that relays for lights ( don't know if HDs have relays or not ) save the switches, as only small amount of power goes through the switch when relays are used.

! I Currently have a Rivera primo headlight on my bike that looks cool as hell, but is still lacking if I want to do extended night rides. But before I purchase expensive auxillary lighting, I'm trying out the 5.75 version on the Cibie light from Daniel stern to see how that works and if I can live with the power of the beam pattern. I think with an 85/80 H4 buld I should be fine I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Thanks again for the advice!
Btw - I did the same handlebar conversion on my 48 AND used them with 1 inch risers. Perfect fit and great advice on it in a previous post! Thanks for that too!

It should. I already contacted Daniel Stern peeps to see what he suggests. The best solution would of course be to upgrade to a 7" lamp but I'd like to stick with my stock Sportster 5.75 lamp.

DK with the save. no wasting $ on sealed $399 lamps that will get you killed when they fail.

For bike specific relay sets check these guys out.
http://easternbeaver.com/Main/Wiring...s/h4_kits.html
and
http://www.cycleterminal.com/headlight-kits.html
If you run incandescent lighting , it will work better with full voltage at the light.
Even a 1 volt drop will cause a 7% less power at 14 volts , we want it all at the light.
These kits fit "inside" the headlight housing.
The side benefit is that the handlebar switches will never have to carry the heavy load anymore , just a trigger circuit for the big circuit.

i just all my lights but my headlight to led... my headlight is now noticeably DIRTY YELLOW!!! LEDs are pure white.
dingy yellow headlight. theres actually more light coming off my front led turn signals than the headlight.

your comparison is in here:

the HD High Performance bulb, though not included, is no where near as bright as the PIAA shown.

Those relay kits from Easternbeaver look really nice ! As does the other one too.
I am sure they do make a big difference, especially if combined with a brand new high quality H4 bulb.
I do like the "plug and play" idea, and the whole thing goes inside your headlight which is cool.
Anyone tried those yet ? Experiences ?
