1987 Sportster Repaint Project
Draining oil and gas
Some shots of the pink flames I can't wait to get rid of.
Down to the skeleton
Extremely easy to get the motor out of the frame, just laid the frame and engine down on cardboard and lifted the frame off
Full work benches
Wanted to start a build thread for my sportster. I responded to an ad on a motorcycle facebook group asking for a bike wanted for paint and hydrographics, and I went and talked to him about it, he's a new company looking for some advertisement. I'm paying for materials, and that's it! Pretty hard to pass up. Here's some photos of the tear down

Some of the patterns for hydrographics he was suggesting
Did some work smoothing welds out and filling in bad factory welds, put two stock fenders together to get a little longer rear fender, and rebuilt the license plate bracket. Parts are off to paint and it should be 2-4 weeks before I get them back, so plenty of time to get everything cleaned and polished up.

Paint progress is slow, but it's given me time to go through the bike systems and degrease, paint, and polish everything up. Also worked on the wiring some to clean it up. New neck bearings and swing arm bearing on the way, along with a new coil and plug wires. Trying to find a new location to mount my speedo, combing through the web looking for ideas to fab up my own. Thinking about keying off the front cylinder rocker bolts on the left maybe

yeah, I'm getting pretty anxious too. He offered to color match my helmets so I'm taking them down to him tonight, hoping I can get a sneak peak of everything else he's got done. He's already told me he's keeping the tank and fenders a secret until they're done though
