Default Fat Boy solid rear wheel on Sportster

Hey guys, I'm looking to get away from wire spoke wheels so I can run tubeless. On the rear, I want to run a Fat Boy wheel. I've seen it done before, and I like the look. On a 2000 Sportster, what year range would I be looking at for the donor wheel? Were there significant changes? I have a line on a wheel from a 2008 right now.

anything is possible if your wallet can handle it.

start here:

full chart here: http://ridewrightwheels.com/pages/mo...-fitment-chart

Thanks, cvaria! Looks like I'll need an '06 or older Fat Boy wheel if I want to make this work, going by the chart.

I really don't want to go to a larger diameter wheel, clearance is already limited with my Hugger and I'm sure I'll be adding substantial unsprung weight over the wire wheel even with the 16".

spoke wheel weight can surprise you....the tube adds weight. some spoke wheels are tubeless too. My fatboy came with spokes from the previous owner, I don't know if they're tube or tubeless. The valve stem looks like an aftermarket chrome one that has a nut holding it. I want to change them eventually just because I don't like to clean spoke wheels.

Technically, a 2003-later softail (including fatboy) 16x3 has a slightly different offset than all other 16x3 Rears of that time frame. Look for a 2000-2002 Fatboy wheel or any 16x3 solid from a 2000-2007 sportster for same exact fit.

With that being said, most people don't know that there is a difference (that's what you'll see on ebay) or how to determine which is which "They all look the same". Well they don't all look the same when you know the key.

Top: 2000-02 Softail (can also be used on Sportsters,Dynas, and Touring) using the standard offset used by all those 16x3 harley wheels

Bottom: 2003-later Softail 16x3 (not the even later wide-hub 16x3) Notice the "unique" machining around the Hub (Brake Disc Side). That's your visual identifier

Here's a part number that might help HD#: 41026-00. Should work for 00-03 Sportys. I actually may have one of these in my storage, but I'd have to do some digging.

The Part# only helps when buying New. The wheel itself has no part# on it

Here are two pics of the wheel from when I had a CL post. I think the tire had an '11 date stamp. Bearings are 3/4" and it came off of an '02 if I remember right.
