V & H straight shots loud loud !!

Gday guys, just chucked some of these slip ons on to a 48 and got a shock at how crazy loud they were. From standard pipes it is ridiculous, in a good way. I feel every ride I take I'll be arrested and locked up in the slammer

I noticed the stock baffles have the fluted "mouths" all facing rearward. Would reversing the baffles take the edge of the sound making it bearable? Anyone done this?. Also thoughts on the quiet baffle option. I'm in Australia so parts are exey.

Here is a recent thread on the same issue. There are suggestions on this thread.

Smartpartz Hard Core Baffles will quiet them down to a nice level.

An older phone video of mine with no baffles and W158 TTI's. Loud but not obnoxiously so.

I went with quiet baffles from Vance and Hines. They are a little quieter but the real difference they make is lowering the tone to a nice deep rumble. I think mine are perfect and the police do not even look at me.

I agree about the Straight Shots, I put them on my FatBoy last year and put the quiet baffles in real soon. They helped quite a bit

Ditto here. Put 'em on and took 'em right back off. Shattered windows for a mile in every direction!!!

I have the straight shots on my 72. I took the baffles out, and made cuts between pairs of "flutes". Then I pushed the area between them in towards the inside of the baffle. This turned 2 "flutes" into 1 big "flute." I did this all over the baffle, probably making 8 cuts or so on each. This helps create some back pressure, and disrupts the flow of the exhaust gasses. It deepened the tone, almost eliminated decel pop, and gave it a nice bark on accel. Not much quieter, but much nicer sounding. I think I basically made myself a free set of "quiet baffles."

Thanks guys, at least it's not just me then thinking it's too loud.

That's strange...I just put a set of these on my 1200C 13' Sportie and I love them out of the box. No decel pop or else. I'm open air cleaner/K&N with DIY clean breather installed and base MAP from FM. Bike had stock pipes on them that I had drilled out all the way. Stock baffles but I removed the SLUG in the center of the stock pipe. Was not bad but I wanted more rumble.

Yea the sound from these new V&H Straight Shots is lower, what I wanted, but I'm not offending anyone in neighborhoods or else with the new sound.

I did ride a 2007 1200L with Short Shots...and judas priest they hurt my teeth and I suffered from hearing loss for 20 mins after getting off the bike in a 30 min ride with a full face helmet even.

Guess it just depends on what you are used to for db and loudness.

Presently I'm running AT on my PV to get a better tune. Bikes running well now but I'm sure I'm wasting fuel.

GOOD LUCK!
