CVP 's instructions said 1 size bigger, I have to check...I think 175 or 180' . The instructions stated 1 3/4 turn after the screw was seated and have gone past that and see backfires and if I go the opposite the carb coughs. I just can't keep her running for more that a few mins. If the bike sits for a while she'll start up but only for a short short, and not again

That's my next step, considering the condition that my accelerator pump was in, it Leads me to believe there are pieces of it are floating around and probably where they shouldn't be, so on my next day off I'll be tearing it down and checking it out. Hope my next report will be a positive one.

Your bike should fire up almost instantly if you did it right, mine does, and idles smoothly within minutes and rides like a new bike.
Most use a 45 pilot and I would try 2.5 turns out on the mixture screw. Make sure you have the O ring/washer/spring/screw in that order. Gently seat screw (should be 10 turns from first thread, or close to) them back it out 2.5. Be gentle, my first replacement O ring was split when I went back in to flush the passages, glad I found it at the time. Carb kit had an extra one luckily, just seat is slowly. A hook in the end of a safety pin is what I used to fish the old o ring out of the mixture screw hole. Pulling the float is easy and makes risk of damage minimized. It's real easy to do. Just watch for the needle to stay attached. That way you can flush away and blow it all out.
I'd strongly suggest doing the intake seals as well, it's also real easy and eliminates one possible issue. If you don't have a cowbell, it's about a five minute job to change them.
Take your time, you can do it.
