I think people like Irons so much because of it's looks and price.

The Iron has a classic, 'just right' look that's almost perfect, before you even touch it.
Only the Superlow is less expensive (not counting the Street line),
and it's a couple thousand more to get a 1200 (going by MSRP).

I like my Roadster much better, but I can see why the Iron is very popular.
I also think a 1200 Iron would be a good seller,
for those who don't want to deal with conversions, or who want the different gearing.

I hear you... I dont agree with any of that but, 1200 iron is not going to happen.

I'll send you a case of beer and eat the words if it does. It's unrealistic to wait for one

I hear ya but why do you say it won't happen? My local Harley dealer said there are a lot of new models/changes coming out. Why couldn't a 1200 Iron be one of them?

I'm only buying a new one and I would prefer a factory 1200 over a conversion. That would be ideal...but right now, I'm leaning towards buying a 2017 fairly soon.

If your going to do 2up and lots of highway, buy the custom 1200 for about $3K more.
My 883 is OK on the highway, although I think such use could benefit from a 38T sprocket. Mind you, legal limits on the West Coast are limited to 70 mph.

I have considered the 38T for my 2017 Iron 883. If I were doing a lot of highway riding, it would be done. As a solo rider of mostly 2lane hilly roads, the stock bike is a very nice ride.

883 is fine on the highway, you will just be winding it out to not get run over. did plenty of local and long distance highway miles on mine when it was an 883... those miles prompted the 1200 conversion though after first long ~3k mile trip. never changed the gearing. thought about it a few times but, no not for how the bike is used.

Get it now and do the Hammer 1275 conversion yourself for a lot less than the dealer will charge you for the 1200 conversion. I disagree with the idea that the 883 is for minimal highway use. My Iron will cruise all day at 70 mph-80 mph without any problem. Although to be fair, I have done a stage 1, changed out the suspension, and added a mustang seat.

i feel like they already did the 1200 iron but they called it the nightster. Slightly different paint but it was basically the same setup with some grey paint on the motor unless I'm mistaken. I liked the iron because it wasn't covered in chrome. I only like chrome if it's covered in dirty oil and bugs to the point that it doesn't shine anymore.

The Nightster had spoke wheels though. And most that I've seen had two tone paint.
Probably a few other differences too besides displacement and gearing.
