Could have just been a loose connection at the terminal.

I've had to pull the battery out and re-tighten on the side of the road a bunch of times. This Friday was the last time...same symptoms.

Have you tried disconnecting the neg. batt. cable from the frame rather than the batt. itself? This is what I do with my '94.

Mine is an 06 XLR1200. The battery shows 13.5 volts. When I put it back in absolutely nothing happens, no lights, nothing. I pulled the battery back out and noticed a hot terminal on neg side again. I then hooked battery charger to cables, turned it to 10 amp charge, and I could hear loud buzz coming from the starter I think. I have no idea what is going on.

No, it is a blunder on your part...

Open your service manual and read the instructions for removing and installing the battery.

You installed it incorrectly, causing the negative terminal to come loose at the battery.

I have had battery's do that ---- what you need to do is charge the battery then load test it off of the bike . What sometimes happens on a bad battery is as soon as you put a load on the batt it dies
A lot of auto stores can do that test

So, I left battery sitting on cover this time. All hooked up, turn key on, nothing. Within 5 minutes terminal was hot again. I think there is enough positive cable to turn battery around,( I put it in the same way it was when I bought the bike ) but that is not my problem at this time.

Did you connect the battery as the service manual specifies?

Do you own a factory service manual?

I connected the positive cable first, then the negative cable. Would a battery short out overnight? I've been riding it all summer. I have the owners manual, no service manual.
