Default Should I clean this air filter or upgrade to something else?

Hello all,

I just tore off the air intake for my recently acquired 2009 Nightster. The cover has a screaming eagle plate, but the shape of the filter is the same as stock.

Part number is 29044-04B, "Dry Element Type"

Otherwise, bike has V&H Short Shots installed. My FP3 should be here tomorrow.

Can I clean the current air filter and still get decent performance? If so, what should I use to clean it?

If not, what filter should I buy to replace it. Price is a factor, so the price-to-performance ration needs to be reasonable (or better :-) )

That is a stock filter, non-washable. You want a better breathing, Stage I filter, https://www.harley-davidson.com/stor...-18-2978207--1

Thanks for the response. Doe anyone know what type of power (HP/ TQ) can I expect with the K&N replacement air filter on my setup?

How much more could I expect from the DK Customs 425 complete kit?

Is there another option I'm missing in the sub-$200 range?

Buy a K&N.
You should see about a 45 hp increase and 60 or 70 lbs of added torque.
Be careful.

I was just kidding.

Buy a K&N filter
Make sure your intake is stage 1 at least. (You should be able to see the filter element on the left with the cover on. Stock will have a black plastic piece that along with the cover completely covers the filter.)

Slap that tuner on and have fun.
I'm not sure what the actual increase in hp or torque is but you'll definitely feel it.
Plus it will sound sweet.

Edit: Do NOT forget to use loctite blue. Trust Me.

45 hp increase? From a filter. Jeez. You work in marketing?

those claims are serious, lol. Why even upgrade anything else?

I think putting a sticker that says "fast" on the bike will triple the top speed and improve braking by 50% at least. Will taste great and be less filling too.

I don't think that filter is the 'factory' filter. That filter is the one that comes with the SE air cleaner/airbox setup.

It is washable, only you aren't supposed to get the inside of the element submersed in the water, it is supposed to be cleaned in 3/4" of water/soap while on it's edge and allowed to air dry. NO compressed air.

Do you even realize even how much faster your bike would be if it was painted black? We're talking "Millennium Falcon" fast.

'@DK Custom could answer that, they have amazing products and customer service. I've got a swear jar going for the 587 outlaw right now. I think my 17 year old is going to fill it up in a week with the way he's been going
