Harley Dual Sportster project underway

There you go, my thoughts exactly. I know there are better off road choices out there, but its not a harley and it would be the same as the thousands of others just like it.

Yup!
Speaking of not a Harley, was at Thanksgiving dinner yesterday with family, and a BIL that rides a Honda ST1300, and I were talking bikes. He mentioned he needed to change his oil, on his recently acquired ST cause he was not sure how old it was. I mentioned the PO of mine had gotten stuff done at dealership.
His comment? Thats ok for a Harley, but I want to make sure mine gets done right. Now I don't care how he orvanyone else feels a out dealerships, but the snobbery is more than I will tolerate. So when he wants someone to take a 3 day trip with, I will be too occupied. Will probably say something like I wouldn't want him to be seen riding with a Harley.
I am sooooo glad I followed my heart on this purchase. I was looking hard at a dual sport, but have wanted a Sportster since childhood. It took 65 years but I won't ride anything else from now on.
The dual sportster is a perfect blend. A few minor tweakscfor ME, here and there, but the concept is ideal. With the Harley TransAmerica coming out, I think HD thinks so too. It looks to me like DS bikes are going to be about 400cc and under, or 900cc or larger, that is the way I see it. Even Triumph just upped their scrambler to 1200cc.

As for the fuel tank, when funds permit, I am thinking serious of finding someone to customise a 4.5 gal Sporty tank to almost 6. I think if the knee area is widened about 1.5" but the front of the tank is widened about 2.5-3" it will accomplish this and still look good there. Fuel cap will still work, and HD fuel gauge will too, sincectank depth will not change. Basically it will be a wedge cut and welded to each side of the tank. Not on the outside, but by moving the outer sides outwards with the wedge between main body and outer edge.
Prob cost a lot but when the funds are there......it's an idea.

I had a hard time finding some to fit the sportster mustache crash bar. Finally found these on EBAY, a guy in Canada makes them. They were around a hundred bucks. Can't even tell they are there in regards to handling, but they surprisingly, being as the mustache bar is pretty small, make cold rides better.
