Default Ignition problems 2014 sporty-eight

Whats cookin'? Ive got a bum ignition. (Part key goes in) and im looking to not give the stealership $140. Has anyone wired up and after market 3 position ignition switch on a newer EFI sporty? Mines a 2014 forty-eight. Or know of any other means? Im worried they have some form of electronic stuff hidden in the housing or something? Or can i just run it old school?

Run it "Old School?" Makes no sense. Ya got 2 locks using 1 key. 1 - ignition, 2 - fork lock. Go to the Parts Department and get 2 new locks, 1 ignition, 1 fork. OR if yer a cheap bastard like me, BUY the ignition lock only and use 2 keys.

On a CAN bus ignition it looks like the switch incorporates resistors. If you went aftermarket you would need to make sure it is for 2014 else it will almost certainly not work.

Not $140. When you order you should give the key or lock number and then you keep the same key I believe.

You could've used the forum's search function and found quite a bit of threads
about different ignition options....

Here's one:

Except the Softail switch is more expensive than the Sportster one and would mean the OP carrying another key.

Does it really solve his problem?

I guess you missed the point - the 'search' feature is pretty handy in my opinion.
I was just offering an example - not implying that it would solve his particular
issue, but there is probably an existing thread that does...
