XL1200 Custom rim question(s)
I recently purchased a 2017 1200 Custom, it has laced rims. I am looking around for a set of the cast rims the Custom also came with and would hope someone with more knowledge could provide an answer.
From what I can gather looking at Ronnies all the way back to 2013, the Custom uses the same spacers on the front and rear with both the laced and cast rims. It also appears they both use the same brake rotors. It also appears HD did away with the cast rims for 2017 and only sold the bike with laced rims as no cast rims are shown.
Am I missing anything, or would it pretty much be a 'plug & play' to swap out the laced rims for the cast ones?

Unfortunately I cannot directly help but I did a wheel swap on an earlier Custom when it shipped with the 21" laced wheel and narrow glide front end.
I got a cast wheel from the same year on a different model but still narrow glide front end.
The cast wheel fitted using the spacers and disc from the laced wheel. Being from the same year the bearings were the correct size.
I am sure you looked but the spacers for the 2017 laced and 2015 cast are all the same. It looks plug and play to me.

My 2011 Custom was the first year they changed to the fat tires and 5-spoke cast wheels. Pretty sure you could even go that far back.
I think H-D saw the writing on the wall so they probably cheaped out and did only the 48/Custom fat laced wheels the last 3 years for the Custom

I have the H-D motorcycle brochures for most years from 2011, including '16 - '20. The '17 - '20 show the Custom with the laced spoke wheels, which seem to indicate std factory equipment, but I could be wrong. It's not to say the mag wheels were not available, but maybe as an option for those years. In any event, I think you're safe for an easy switch and maintenance going to mags.
I like that Velocity Red Sunglo color, if that's your bike. I made some changes on my Custom, including going to mid-controls and putting hwy pegs in the forward position. More comfy switching leg positions on the long rides and I seem to have better slow speed controls with the mids.

I swapped in some chrome footpeg supports on my SuperLow so I have the painted mid control supports. I also have the shifter lever, only thing(s) I had to find were the clevis (I think that's what they call it) for the right side brake pedal/footpeg. I found the clevis, cannot find the correct brake pedal for mid controls anywhere, used OR new. Well that's not true, there are a few in GERMANY...
Ended up ordering one from Ronnies, and of course they are on back order until February.
I have found a set of the cast rims, haven't made up my mind just yet.

I'm a chrome guy as well, and glad to see someone else likes chrome. Here are some pics of my Custom and King.
If you find the brake side foot peg is too far out, you can use one of these shorter clevis. It aligns the foorpeg with the brake peddle.

I'm just going with the 'standard' mid controls like is on the SuperLow I have now as I'm used to that setup.
I've pretty much decided to stick with the laced rims. I want the 1200 to be different from the SuperLow, or IMO there's no reason to have it.
For anyone interested, there is a seller on ebay with a brand new set of take off cast rims for a Custom. I've just though long and hard about it, and will stick with what I've got.
