I believe the title of the page is misleading. Look further down the page, it only fits 'newer' models
as shown below.

Fitment:
Fit For SPORTSTER 1200 CUSTOM (XL1200C) 2010
Fit For SPORTSTER 1200 LOW (XL1200L) 2010-2011
Fit For NIGHTSTER (XL1200N) 2010-2012
Fit For SPORTSTER FORTY-EIGHT (XL1200X) 2010-2022
Fit For SEVENTY-TWO (XL1200V) 2012-2016
Fit For SPORTSTER IRON 1200 (XL1200NS) 2018-2021
Fit For XR1200 2010
Fit For XR1200X 2010-2011
Fit For SPORTSTER 883 LOW(XL883L) 2010-2011

SO, you will have to 'make it fit' by either cutting the hole for the ECM, OR by
relocating the ECM someplace else.
A fender supposedly for a HD Sportster but they drill the holes for the seat and not the hole for the wiring harness. If the idea is for the end user to fabricate it they way they want then leave the seat holes out as well as most are probably going to fit a solo seat.

So the fender will be here Friday. The new battery will get here Saturday. I've already pulled the ECM through into the battery compartment. Just need the smaller battery to get here so I can tuck it into the box.

About the brake wire routing...does anybody know how the wires are routed on the 2010+ models? Do they split right at the harness and go through two smaller holes on the sides of the fender that are pictured? Do you think it would be easier to change the routing to match the fender or just drill the hole to put them through as is?

If I can just cut this long rubber tube off and split the wires right from the harness without cutting and splicing I might prefer that. Anything more involved and the drilling is probably going to be easiest right?

I'm general, for a hole that size drilling through painted metal should it still be ok as long as I put masking tape over it?

Thanks.

On my 07 after relocating the ECU, i used the original wiring to the light, cut the tube and ran a splice where the vacated ECU was. I did reuse the original fender, so that might not work for you unless you drill the new one.

Thought was to keep the wiring and my cold solder joints out of the muck.

On your Custom the wiring loom is a 6 wire harness that goes to a backplate behind the rear lamp. In that harness is ground and a wire for running light, brake light, left indicator and right indicator. There is also an accessory power wire used on HDI models.

For the Iron though there is 3 harnesses that go to the indicators as they are used for run, stop and turn and a harness to wherever the license plate is mounted.

Looking at a parts list the fender for the Iron doesn't have the large hole for the Custom harness.

You have some holes to drill depending on what lights you want on it as there is another one at the back on a Custom as well.

I got the noco battery and successfully placed the ECM into the battery box...kind of. The ECM does have enough room to slide all the way back but the wire bundle is stiff and won't quite bend at the right angle to allow it. So I'll have to see if I can rework the angles to tuck it all the way back because as it is I couldn't get the side cover to close all the way in the front.

It's way more closed than with the ECM just sitting on the outside but not quite all the way. The noco battery fired up the bike just fine. I've ridden it twice with it, and stopped and restarted while out with no issue. I felt the battery during and after each ride and it never felt warm at all. But to be fair I only rode for about 30 minutes or so. Maybe on a longer ride it could heat up?

Since the terminals on this battery were reversed I turned the battery backwards so they faced the rear of the bike, then flipped it onto it's back, putting the terminals in the correct orientation. Side to side the battery fits snug like that. Negative terminal connects on the front of the battery which now faces up, and the positive connects to the top which faces forward now. A couple pieces of foam on top and the ECM slides snugly over the battery.

I'll update if I figure out a way to fit the ECM in better, or if the battery gives me any problems. I'm getting the fender put on Wednesday because I just don't have anywhere to do it myself. They're gonna split the wires and run them behind the strut covers so they don't have to drill. The fender looks nice can't wait to see it on the bike.

I looked into the ecu on top too. Thought about trimming about a half inch off the rear top (right side) of tray. It looks like there’s room if the tray is trimmed.

Decided to run it sideways in the front as the cover is going to be hacked and zipped anyway.

Very cool, glad you got it.

He's another view inside there.

The ECM can go in deeper but the wires won't bend enough.

As far as battery cables are concerned, I switched to Terry Components wires. No issues.
You can order whatever custom length you need....

Well it all worked out. Here's the bike with the new fender.

One of my new brake lights is defective man it's always something. I paid $80 for these from J&P cycles who is no help at all. I won't be shopping there anymore but that's a different subject.

Looks nice. It's hard to tell from the pics, but is there a gap between the strut & top of the arch in the fender ?

My Iron has a 'filler plate' pop riveted in to fill-in the gap. Of course I took that as an opportunity to
add some stainless mesh there to make mine just a bit 'different'.... Here's a few pics.
