RE: 1200 sporty help 1340 build up
Appearantly there is an oiling issue with the 04+ heads.
Then there was a time that NRHS 1250 engines had problems with oil consumption. However, anybody that head head work done there has a completely different valve seal and the issue there is much different from the issue the stock bikes faced.

I have to agree with Mark g.I have nothing but good things to say about Zippers. They offer a nice selection for Sportsters(even my '90)and yes...they have a great reputation for performance, reliability and customer service.I've also heard alot of good things about NRHS but haven't had any experience with them personaly. You'll always hear people say "they suck" or "don't go there" or whatever.I say, do your research, find out exactly what you need and you probablycan't go wrong with either. LOL......I forgot what this thread was about

RE: 1200 sporty help 1340 build up
I have a NRHS 1250 kit. I was a little discouraged when I received them, as I found out the hard way, only the all aluminum or all iron kits are Axtell. The iron lined aluminum kit that Ibought is their in house kit. They make it by buying V-Twin Mfg. 1200 jugs and boring them out. After calling them to see what was up, they said these aftermarket cylinders are beefier than stock ones which allows them to bore them out this much. The pistons are CP brand, who makes their "Hurricane" pistons. The Total Seal rings are not the "gapless' units. I'm not bashing them, as this kit performs VERY well on my bike, but all of these oversights are easy to make if you don't look into this hard enough. The assumption that you are getting Axtell parts is just that, an assumption. The discouraging part about the kit I got, is the V-Twin Mfg. cylinders are foreign made.

Good posts.
I thought http://www.nrhsperformance.com/ would be a better place due to their performance with the land speed records.
I have only heard good stuff about zippers. http://www.zippersperformance.com/
I was planning on mods done closer to me. https://www.rrcycles.com/index.html
I don't like seeing that most folks with the big bore kits have to trim the piston skirts for clearance. The lack of reliability is not appealing after spending $5k.

The piston skirt trimming is only an issue on the 88' kits, I believe. Mine went on without a hitch. Again, not to bash them, I just felt a little misled. Axtell is all over their site, and the mistake was mine, it's just an easy one to make. However, I'm going to get mine dynoed soon. Maybe I'll post the numbers afterwards. For anyone who may have a similar combo, mine has NRHS Iron lined aluminum Thunderstorm 10.5:1 1250 kit, Andrews N6 cams, Thunderstorm heads, Roller rockers, complete Daytona Twin Tec single-fire ignition system, Thunderheader exhaust, Mikuni 42HSR, and Arlen Ness Big Sucker aircleaner.I did a test and tune at the 1/8 mile track, w/o the new Mikuni, Roller Rockersor Ness aircleaner kit, and run 7.70s @ 97mph. With a good tune and the new parts I expect to go a bit faster.
P.S. This is not a Buell frame bike. It's a bit heavier 2003 1200c and I weigh 225lb.

P.S. Also I forgot to mention my Thunderstorm heads are straight out of the box. No porting, though I do plan to have them ported (stage 3) by NRHS regardless of what others say. I have installed a couple of sets of heads worked by them and they are badass. They do shine on the dyno. It's hard to mess up a good port job when it's programmed into a CNC machine. Also, they do have great customer service and support with Dan. He has been very helpful. I also plan to install Redshift 585 cams when I get the heads done, but I'll have to startputting money backagain for that.
