Default Kuryakyn laydown Tail light

Just got a Kuryakyn lay down tail light and license plate today, installing the plate was a breeze, but the tail light which I thought would be fairly simple, just plug and play, turned out to be a real pain. First the cheap bulb that came with the kit twisted off in my hand when I tried to plug it into the plug on the new kit. After going down to Auto Zone and getting a new bulb I discovered that the slots where the prongs on the bulb twist into cannot be pluged into because the rubber around the wiring housing is keeping the pins on the bulb from twisting down into the plug. Then when I finally got the bulb snugged up enough to test it, just the brake light worked, the running light did not work, execpt when I hit the brake light. Finally just ended up putting the stock tail light back on. Guess that was just 40 bucks pissed away. Just curious if anyone has experienced anything like this or can maybe suggest a good lay down tail light. Thanks.

Had the same problem threw it in the drawer.
Just for grins the other day I took the stock bulb holder and put a red
bulb in it, and got it to fit in the laydown lense and it worked fine.

I'm using the laydown tail light from Sorgy's (long time internet vendor) on all my bikes.

They seem to be much 'heavier duty' than those I've purchased at other places, and I run the stock bulb in them without any problems (even in the 100+ degree summer months here in the lower midwest). On some of the other models I tried the stock bulb would actually try to melt the lens.

Thanks guys for the info. Maybe will try to work on the light this weekend or maybe just opt for the LED lense in the near future.

I'm using the Sorgy's lense as well and have had no probs with a stock bulb in it like OFG.
You might give that a try

I have the lay down lens from JP Cycle but it is just a lens that bolted on to the stock mount and used the stock bulb and holder, however the bulb touched the lens and melted it and broke the bulb so I returned it and they gave me a new lens and a LED cluster bulb at discount for the inconvenience and now it looks and works great.

I just got mine today but I didn't realize the bulb and housing were attached to the old lens cover. Not sure where to go from here. Should I seperate the entire bulb housing from the lense and use it with the new lens? I thought it would just be a case of unscrewing two screws and replacing the old lens...
