I would use struts on mine but then I could not ride.... Back would kill me. Not as nimble as I once was. Nice looking ride though. Keep us posted on progress.

Default Sportster Bobber

thanks for all the replies.

I've met a friend of mine who sells bike parts here, and he told me that it's cheaper to import all the new parts from the US instead of buying an used Sporty and transform it. I can buy a new bobber frame for the Sporty.

I'm going for the 883 engine, because it's well know here and I don't think I'll need more than that for a mostly city bike. It costs less and I'll save gas.

I've read the 883 X 1200 topic, and I understood that its more fun to "force" the 883 engine.

I'll keep you posted.

Maury

p.s.: Gazza, at the "drag bars" I saw your paparazzi pictures and you said "your arms hide your belly and all the cute girlys watching ya drive by still want you to give them babys because they can't tell yet how fat you (I) am".
That's wrong, the reason they don't see your belly is because you'r wearing black, and everybody knows black makes you look thinner.

Default same boat as thread leader

I am trying to build a bobber as well. I am actually going to tig weld the frame my self. my biggest issue being 20 yrs old is finding an engine with out being in my opinion lame and going with like a xs650 or something. If any of you guys got an idea of a decent priced harley engine that i could grab would be sick or even an old crap bike with an engine that i could take apart rebuild engine and go from scratch.... I build cars from scratch so hopefully i can build one of these bad boys always been my dream and now i think ill be able to sink my teeth into one .....
thx

for your first build, go cheap....

consider building something around a honda twin. the cb350 thru 500's look a lot like triumphs (especially the 450s) and theyre powered in the "starter bike" class. parts are easy to find. hell you could buy enough parts to build a bike from ebay motors.

the cb series frames are easy to hack on. a few cuts here and there, a little welding, and you've got a rigid. changing the rake is easy enough because of the single down tube.

ask questions before doing things. there are a lot of really badly built bikes around because people don't ask how to do things.
