my 07 1200r came with the mag rims whick are not clear coated. i cleaned and polished them for about a year then i let them go to hell. the rims turned dark grey and had white crusty stuff all over them. i just got sick of cleaning them after every ride.....so today i washed the bike and tried to shine up the rims but the polish i had wasnt doing anything... i found a spray on- hose off wheel cleaner at auto zone. its called "eagle one mag etching cleaner" . anyway sure as hell i sprayed it on,waited 30 seconds then hosed it off. it took all the crap off even on the rough cast parts. didnt even have to scrub them .the rims are silver again ,but it doesnt leave them shiny so i hit them quick with some mothers mag polish and it came out like new. just figured id give the heads up if anyone had the same problem.

 

Yeah that stuff works great. I've restored a lot of cast aluminum wheels with it. It does tend to streak a little though, but if you're polishing when you're done, you should be ok.

 

I'll have to give that a try. Every time I have the wheels off for tires, I try to get them back to shiny. Always end up just giving up after a couple of hours of polishing.
