2004 was a great Year with a few flukes just sold mine and miss it .. But as mentioned the Battery Cover can disappear with no warning .. also if sounds like misfiring and hard to rev up and rough idle when stopped after warmed up change your CPS or CPK also known as ( Crankcase Position Sensor ) Had my 04 almost 3 years and replaced it twice the updated replacement seems to have taken care of this problem....

I got me an 04' Sporty about 1month ago and love it. I took the MSF class as well, I think it was a good experience.

Nice find. You'll enjoy the R. Great all around bike and no problems on the long hauls. Did a 2,000+ mile ride last Summer, with no issues. Well, except for not having highway pegs. Have fun.

Thank you all for the comments. The bike has screamin' eagle pipes and some chrome upgrades, not sure if anything else was done, the guy I bought it from was the 2nd owner. 2 previous owners and less than 4,000 miles - I sure hope to put a lot more on it. I will definitely check the battery cover, it's a little scraped up so if I were to lose it I would probably just get a new one in chrome but will zip tie it until I am ready to change it out or sand and repaint it.

I've been going through the stickies and other information here. I am learning a lot. The bike seems to run really well so far.

Default RRrrroadster

I too have an 04.
It is the most satisfying ride I have ever owned.
mines Teal its faster. the roadster has dual front discs and performance heads, and its under appreciated. might be the best sportster ever made then not made. I plan to keep mine and someday get another.

Dual disks up front and a tach to boot and about the least expensive XL1200 you could buy. I don’t know why they (HD) didn’t sell a ton of those Roadsters. I wanted one but I wanted the chrome and black engine treatment of the Custom or the Low more so I ended up buying the XL1200L and just putting a tach on it after I got it. I can live without the dual disk set up as I wanted less weight on the front wheel anyway. I hope that you have many safe and wonderful miles on your new to you Harley Davidson!
