im pretty sure it's time to do a 1200/1250 conversion on my 95 883 that has 25k miles. i know the kit has new cylinders & pistons but not heads. please excuse my ignorance but would it he better, or even necessary to get a set of 1200 heads? thanks in advance for your help.
spend all that money to have the valves too small, get the heads too and the full performance upgrade at the same time, take care of everything at once becuase then you can spend the rest of the life of your bike enjoying it instead of getting the motor to run right
I did check out that place cause i have seen you mention it a few times on here & that is actually why i am asking. im looking as the cast iron cylinders & it says its the for xl1200 heads, nothing for xl883 heads...thanks guys
If it's the 25,000 miles that have you concerned about the heads...no worries there. 61,000 miles on my 883. No engine problems so far. I am about to do the 1250 conversion, and will look at the heads while I have them off.
Probably will re-seat the valves during the process. Maybe go back and replace the heads with Buell heads. Just depends on how things look.
Better than getting new heads, have the heads you already have re-worked for a 1200. Alot of shops prefer the 883 heads because of more material to work with when porting and flowing those heads. We all know the heads make her breath, better flowing heads are well worth the $$$$

You wont need 1200 heads, you can go stage 1 or 2 on your 883 heads.
Call them and ask for Dan, he great to work with and he'll give you all your options.
I believe the 1200 conversion does come with heads. i just had a 1200 kit put on my 883 Iron and the kit came with heads. It is the stage-1 screamin eagle kit. its pretty awesome though I a still breaking it in so i haven't really opened it up yet. Good luck
I kept the 883 heads, but had them ported and polished and bigger valves installed. But I had my engine work done by a mechanic who holds several land speed records on vintage motorcycles, so he knows how to work a motor and get the best out of it.
