I presently have a 2001 883 sportster with stage 2 upgrades. I would like to replace my Sceamin Eagle pipes with short shots or something similiar as I prefer that look. Are there any pros or cons to making this exhaust change, and are there any carb upgrades that need to be done to handle the exhaust change. Advise would be greatly appeciated.
I am new to motorcycles, but when I checked with everyone here locally it was decided I could change from my SE slip on's to the short shots with nothing else needed. This included a guy who changed his Iron's pipes.
If you bike has been rejetted you should be fine. Slapped some sideshots on the wife's sporty and adjusted the carb mixture screw a bit and it was good to go. Go for it.
Not to be a smartass. But take a flashlight and look into the end of the pipes. If there is something their you have baffles. Now as to wether you have standard vs. quiet baffles, that I can't help you with.
Yes had Short Shots put On but do not know if they have Baffles in them! How to tell ????
My guess would be that if you didn't pay any extra for the qb's...then you've got the standard baffles in there. The difference is that the qb's are wrapped with an insulation. If you can shine a flashlight up in there and see through the holes in the baffles...then they're the standards. If you see some wrapping and can't see through the holes, then you've got the qb's. But I'd be willing to bet they're the standards. It's not hard to change them out, especially if you do it before they get a lot of build up on them. But it's definetly easier to do before they're installed. Good luck!

Easiest way to tell is stick something into the pipe. If you hit something about 10 inches in, you have the quiet baffles. I have Sideshots and replaced the standard baffles with the quiet ones. The standard baffles were open on both ends with perforations in the side. The quiet baffles have a cap on one end forcing the exhaust through the fiberglass packing and holes.
