Default struts vs shocks. questions

so i just bought an 07 nightster. it has stock shocks, and with the wife on the back. (i bought a 2 up seat and pegs) the front end feels light especially around turns. now she isnt gonna be along on any long ride, mostly around town and 20 miles max probably. i bought a set of struts for cheap from a friend. will they help any with the light front end feeling. i know itll be rough but roads in maryland are smooth for the most part

Yes...they'll get rid of the light feeling.

They'll also get rid of the feeling in your ***, your wife's *** & create a whole new feeling in your lower back & shoulders.

I'm thinking struts are not your best option for long rides, 2-up rides or to compensate any front end woes you have.

Seen Road King shocks on a Sportster?

I dont think I would describe the front end of a sportster as feeling "light". What are you comparing it to? Does it still have the original tires? If its an 07 its probably due for a replacement regardless of the number of miles on it.

Alternatively, does the front end feel light only when your wife is on the bike? How far back does she sit and how heavy is she?

I would'nt take the wife for a ride with the struts on, she may not get back on the bike...

she already knows she isnt gonna be on any long rides on the back. only around town a few miles. bagger air shocks arent a bad idea. the light feeling is only when shes on it, and since there is no back rest she scoots up close shes about 130. the bike only has 2000 miles on it now, and was just inspected so im sure the tires are not the issue. i was tossing around the idea of a sidecar for long trips for her. but thats another day

You must really hate your ol lady to make her ride on struts, if I where you I'd be sleeping with one eye open or she may get even.

lol, struts n rigids aren't for everyone. It took my girl a while to get used to riding a rigid. But I made a nice seat for us out of good material and she likes it just fine. We usually put down bout 200 mile rides on the weekends. She likes to wrap her legs around my waist and usually drapes an arm over my shoulder n falls asleep, lol. Ya gotta pay attention to the road more though as those pot holes n dips ARE murder on ya a$$...

The nightster is really low in the rear stock. I highly recommend 12" RK shocks with no lowering kit. It will raise the bike up maybe 3/4" and put more weight on the front end. I have 13" on mine and absolutely love it. The 13" are not a direct swap though for the nightster.
