Default Engine Ping 2009 Iron

I need a little help. I'm new to this site as well as bought my first Harley last year, previous bikes BMW and Honda. I purchased a 2009 Iron new last year, now has just over 700 miles. I am getting a ping when letting off the throttle. I use 90 octane fuel with HD additive and yes is has oil. It has used some oil but I believe thats do to break in. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks!!!

Try the obvious like using the highest octane possible and when you change your oil next use a good synthetic oil to help keep the engine temps a little lower. I had the same problem when my 1200 was stock but since going to a stage 1 and using synthetic oil I only get a slight ping when I'm in too high of gear with a heavy load on the engine(and when its above 100 degrees outside)

Thanks. Unfortunatley 90 octane is the highest we have. Temp today was about 60. I also have a stage 1. I still have original oil in it. Dealer told to change at 1000 miles. The ping has gotten louder since first ride. Oil level hot is just below the half way mark on dip stick. ? This should be enough oil right??

That's usually where my oil level is at so yes that's fine. If you have a piggyback tuner (fuelpak, power commander, etc) try tuning/get it tuned a little on the rich side as most pinging is a lean/hot issue. Also check for leaks in your intake.

Are you sure it's ping? I've heard a lot of motors ping, but never on decel.
The MINIMUM recommended octane for your bike is 91, I believe.
