Default Battery Cover staying attached?

Anyone else have issues on the highway with the battery cover just flying off at 80MPH? Mine flew off today randomly and hit some ladies car behind me. I had no idea it flew off either. Luckily she was ok and her fender was damaged anyways so it was already getting replaced so i lucked out there.

I noticed it doesn't stay in very well so i 'm not sure what to do about that?

Anyone have any work arounds on keeping it secured?

Depending on the year of your, HD improved the clips on later models....I forget from which year.

I and many others on here use the trusty ole zip tie.

I have a 2015, there is no option for me to zip tie it? It clamps in with 2 clamps on the top.

Not sure what year you have?

I don't think the oil and battery covers have changed all that much. Look on the left top corner of the battery cover (Left side of the left clip). I believe there is an oval hole in the cover and an oval hole in the frame tube behind it. I have a 2011 and my sporty already has the improved clip....but mine still use to pop open at times when I was not using a zip tie.

If yours have no holes...drill a hole on the top of the battery cover in line with the hole in the frame. I will try to take a pic and post.

Friend took my clips off and heated them up with a propane torch and bent them for a better grip, also have a long zip tie so I can pull the cover back to check the electrical.

I used a piece of electrical wire passed through the slot/hole in the cover and tied around the frame.
