I am hearing words like "winter storage" and "1 month old gas". What do they mean?

1 month old gas? Didn't know there was such a thing. Even in winter, I can get out a couple a times or more a month and burn a tank or 3 or 4.

 

Seafoam. Best damn cleaner there is. If just cleaning is what you are after.

 

I can testify to this and maybe it is "God in a can".
Case #1: I had a 800 Polaris ATV that was running like crap & had fresh gas in it...buddy of mine (lead mechanic at a Honda/Kaw dealer) suggested it was a fuel system/injector problem and to run some seafoam through it at 2oz. per gallon. After about half the tank was ran throug it, it cleared up and ran perfect & never a problem after that.
Case $2: My JD lawnmower is 10 years old & I've never had to do anything to it except change oil/filter, fuel filter & plugs since I bought it new in '01...This summer it began running like s**t and I assumed it was the fuel filter clogged, so I changed it...didn't help at all. So...I put some Seafoam in the tank and after mowing 2 times it is once again running smooth. The carburator was all gummed up, now it's not.
Seafoam is ligit...expensive, but it works....period. I run it through everything I own about twice/year from now on.

 

Are injectors that hard to get to? On my cars, ATV an Jetskis, I take them out and send them off during the off season for cleaning. During which time they test them and make sure it sprays correctly. I had a set of injectors in my Vette that sprayed perfectly. Nobody could tell that the were out. Testing proved it. One even had a collapsed filter basket. On my diesel car and truck, every 100K, the injectors come out for testing and cleaning. On Jetskis and ATVs, every 3 or 4 years. On the bike, same thing will happen in a couple of years.

So far, I see little to no real testing done. All evidence of the "cleaner in a can" is basically anecdotal evidence or hearsay. Testing and cleaning removes all doubt. Try cleaning a room in the dark. Just because you see a pile of dirt doesn't mean the room is clean. There could be more but you just don't know it.

 

Thanks, but I put the seafoam in and it stopped the choking that was going on.... since then I have turned 5000miles and I am all good. the problem needed fuel injector cleaner to clear out bad gas, and I am smooth sailing.
I am however interested to learn more about injectors and how to. I sold a classic fiat because my fuel injectors were in bad shape and I was too broke to invest more. Now my new bike is EFI and I am determined to know how to......

 

You don't have to buy new injectors. Corvette Injectors is a pretty reputable place.

What they do is to test the injectors and clean them so you know whether it is spraying well or what the volume of fuel injected is.

 

BG44k 3 part system does a real good job at releasing carbon from valves and injector nozzles.

 

Wish I could have cleaned the injectors back then. that car is on to a better owner.
BTW I went Chevy after that and learned a lot more about the mechanics of what I was doing.
