Hey all. 1st post here.

I'm buying a 2009 nightster and it has a set of loud Vance and Hines sideshots installed and it does not have the quiet baffles.

Are they legal, noise wise in Quebec Canada? Does anyone know what the spec'd noise levels and how much it would cost to have quiet baffles installed?

 

You should be able to pull up Canada's dept of transportation website and it should tell you in what gear and at what RPM the DB level is acceptable.

 

Problem is that the Vance & Hines sideshots don't seem to have any publised numbers on their noise levels.

Is there a cheap & easy way to quiet them down for the government inspection?

 

Yeah, not likely.

I was seriously worried about mine when I bought my Harley. New York cops can be... well, ******. But I can now pull up next to any cop in the 5 boroughs and not worry about being pulled over for loud pipes. No one has ever bothered me. I think most cops know that regardless of what stats say, loud pipes save lives!

And I have never had a problem with inspection either which was surprising. They don't even start the bike lol. They're more concerned about turn signals and a horn believe it or not. I have to point out my Radiantz LED turn signals for them

 

If your worried, throw some quite baffles in,there cheap easy and I think they sound more throaty. I just put some in my wife sporty with short shot pipes and I really like the sound of them. they just lower the dec. a couple but imo takes that high pitch down a notch and still sounds bad.and if you don`t like em after inspection take em out. it`s real easy.
