now that's just not true either, 250cc sport bikes are pretty slow, BTW honda just came out with a 250cc sport bike, god knows why but they did.

90% of people who buy a 250cc sportbike as a first motorcycle will trade it in on something bigger with-in 3 years.

my last bike was a 500 ninja, and it wasn't slow but my 1200 sportster is definitly alot faster.

no harley can compare to a 4 cylinder sportbike for speed, those bikes have enough power/weight to flip themselves over easily which means they can be dangerous.

I know what you mean, the sportster is much more of a thrill ride, since your weight is upright instead of laid down like on a sportbike you have to really hold on and the vibrations add to the effect. Plus you have 5 speeds instead of 6 so you go thought them faster and first gear really likes to move.

[quote=06Sporty75;9012921]now that's just not true either, 250cc sport bikes are pretty slow, ...

The only comparisons I could find were between a Ninja 250 and Sportster 1200; they were close, both "won" in different articles. Going by their specs, I'd expect the Harley to be faster; I suspect the lighter bike just gets off the line a lot quicker, but I'd expect the Harley to do much better at something like a 50-75 roll on. What surprises me is that the Ninja isn't as fast as a 1967 Suzuki Hustler 250 two stroke; with a pro rider, they broke 100 in the quarter. I rode one of those a fair amount, and it had no problem leaving any stock Harley of the time well behind - but it didn't have any torque to counter winds or hills either, only good at flat out acceleration. Not sure why I like my Harley so much, doesn't have impressive speed or handling, but I like it better than any of the other brands I've had.

I owned a Sportster 1200 before buying my Road King Classic. I loved my Sportster! I never felt underpowered with the 1200. I also loved the ease of handling. It is not just for chicks and I would love to see a Sportstour.

Power/Torque in mass is what I like! No farting around. The sport bikes must crank up to power mode, mine just jumps away first, they always pass and rocket down the road (cops waiting but its fun to get the jump on them. I don't waste my time trying to keep up, that's not why I have a Harley.

My bike is for going to and from work, rode daily and is the best part of the day.

I prefer SportGlide!

One up is correct.
