2011 and newer owners, what is your solution?

I've had my 2012 1200 Custom for almost a year now and love it. The only problem I have so far is Harley changed the clevis for the forward control footpeg mounts. The top of the clevis is approximately 1/2 in longer than the bottom making it impossible to switch out the pegs for their other ones. I have emailed the company and spoke with the dealer and there does not appear to be a solution coming anytime soon. I know DK Customs makes pegs that would work but honestly, not a big fan of them. I also know you can machine the top of the clevis down however, it makes for a very tight space between your peg and the brake/shifter which could be an issue in an emergency situation. Have any other owners firgured out a way around this issue?

im not familiar with this could you take a pic, and would switching a clevis from an older year work?

You have to switch out the clevises for the pre 2010 type, here are the part numbers you need, 42541-04 & 42566-04.

Fit these and you can fit any pegs you wish!

Or take out the angle grinder and grind the current clevis to the same length of the other one.

I switched to mid controls on my '12 C. Any foot pegs fit the mid control mounts.

Yep, a quick grind and your good to go! I did mine and powder coated them black. I even cut the top brake peg off and made my own brass brake peg to match my brass foot pegs.

After you ground your clevis down, did you find you still had adequate space between your peg and brake/shifter? I talked to some one who did that and they didn't like how their foot was under the brake.

Clarify this for me please, you arent able to change out footpegs on 2012 sportsters because of this?

cpracing519 04-09-2012 06:21 PM

No problems at all. I hardly even notice a difference when I did mine. The stock pegs have a lowered mounting spot;pegs sit lower than clevis; and the new pegs are straight across from the clevis. It just raises your foot up alittle, but not enough to cause any issues.
Captain smooth, you can't put older style pegs on due to the 48 clevis. If you look at yours closely, the upper part of the peg mount is longer than the bottom mount by the pin that holds your pegs onto the clevis. Most pegs won't mount up unless you change the clevis or grind it down.

You can only use certain pegs on 2011 and newer Sportys. Basicly only pegs with the wear peg can be used is what I have found. I put pre 2010 mounts on and now I can use any footpegs I want on
