If they won't pull a unit off a floor model you have the option to call H-D and open a complaint. That will light a fire. This is a brand new bike we are talking about here.

I got a dog in this hunt too, brother.
XL 1200c 2011
Picked it up in August and about one month later I got intermitant symptoms you described. Since it was not constant I just put up with it. It would come and go, I was trying to figure out if there was a pattern.

Two weeks ago i was takeing a 1.5 hour ride and 15 min into ride the two lights came on and stayed this time. I was commited on the interstate run and when I stopped for a rest, bam, batt dead and no crank. Had to trailer home, charge battery and now she is at dealer a week now!

I have a feeling this is a known and recurring problem that the Moco should make a recall about. I really doubt this is not known by them.

Lot's of new Harley's, not just Sporties, are experiencing regulator failures lately. Even if your under warranty, you might want to consider an aftermarket regulator if getting in for warranty service is a big pain in the a$$. Cycle Electric makes an excellent regulator that's better than the stock unit and it's a bolt on replacement. JP Cycles carried them last time I checked.

Thanks for the info. Looked at the prices of the regulators and the price for a new reg is less than what I'll have in gas. I called and filed a complaint this morning. Let's see what kind of stink (if any) that stirs up. Maybe I'll get a free sticker or something.

HAHAHA if your dealer is any good they will fix the problem as fast as they can, complaints are taken pretty seriously at least where I go. The dealer I got my iron from ( Ocean County ) in NJ is all about ratings and trying to be a "platinum" dealer so whenever there is an issue or even a non-issue they call me to ask about the bike and if I am experiencing any issues ... Had one stupid problem with the break light sensor and they fixed it that day within an hour ... Good luck and sorry to hear about your problems with the new bike

Default Twas the regulator

The same day I called in the complaint they had her fixed (Imagine That). They put a "shop regulator" on it and it was charging fine. They ordered a new regulator from another dealer, put it on and took it for a 15 mile test drive. Then they gave me my bike back with the gas light on. I mentioned this in general conversation with the head parts guy and he was like, no they didn't. He had them fill it up with gas before I left. Drove her home and drove her a little Saturday and she seems to be fixed now.

+1 on the aftermarket. I've had this type for 5 years and about 40k miles. The chrome is just now starting to flake a little.
