I'm 5'9" 222 LBS I have to have forward controls on a 1200 and thats comfortable for me. I fit better on the Superglide with forward controls and the bike is much more comfortable. @ your height That's what i'd suggest, Otherwise you may find yourself with many backaches.
Good luck to ya

6'3", 300lbs. -> 883 with mid controls.
Yes, it is way small for me, but its all I got. I've never had a bigger bike, so I can't say if I would like a bigger one better, but the mids kind of remind me of my old mountain bike from when I was a kid.
My guess is that it depends on what kind of riding you're doing though. On the highway, I'm cramped and uncomfortable, but on the more technical roads, I feel like I have total control and agility.

My lady just picked up an Iron 883 here a few days ago. I am only 5'10" and bout 200 lbs, and I feel WAY to big on her bike. Say a 48 with mini apes and forward controls might fix that, but with a guy your size, bro your going to feel small on anything minus a twin cam. I love my FB Lo, super comfy. Street bobs and softail slims might suit you better, however the street bob still has mid control and feels a bit odd to me.

I am 6'4" and my wife has a 1200c. It is definetly small, but with the forward controls, comfortable and has plenty of power. That said, I had to make modifications to my Road Glide to get comfortable - like moving the seat back, the footboards forward, and extending brake & shift controls.

I've read so many " I'm 6"0' and my sportster is way too small for me" posts before getting my iron.. I'm 6"1' and I cannot even imagine changing my mid-controls to forward. I just love it. I feel more comfortable on my iron than on the dynas or v-rod (softail or touring are out of question for me due to the looks... ) . If you cannot try, it would be a risky buy.. But if you can, see for yourself. Everyone has its own needs and different bodies. I have a friend who's proportionally smaller than me, and he loves forwards on his 48.

5'10", 160lbs, and my 1200c needs slight adjustments. I want to put different bars on it because the originals are too swept back for me. They scrunch up my chest, and are just uncomfortable.... If I lean forward a hair and grab the front levers, I'm MUCH more comfortable, so that's about where I'm gonna shoot for...
Also, some people have been reported as saying the Japanese "Crazy Orange" scoots are comfortable... I don't believe a word these people say, but to each their own.
Really, it's all about your own comfort zone. Go to a hog shop and try a few bikes on!! Sit on them for a good hot minute. Bring the bike up, put a foot on one peg, and try to get a feel for how an hour or two or three or six or twelve would feel on the bike. If it's a matter of a few minor adjustments, it's a decent fit.... If you just can't subscribe to being too scrunched-up or stretched-out, it's not a good fit... And since every human being is built slightly differently (God may have made us all politically equal, but he sure took some liberties in the physical category), there's never gonna be a "perfect fit" sitting on the showroom floor.... Unless you happen to be at Barnett's in El Paso, which has about 75% of the world's Harley-Davidsons in house!
