Default A pick and a 1200 question

Just a litte rip around on the brutal 883 who can easily snap your neck with a tiny blip on the throttle
is there cheap and simple kit on the market if i just want to go 1200cc with pistons and maybe cylinders and use everything else stock, has anyone done it ? worth it ?

The problem is you'll also need a set of 1200 heads and a new tune, gets expensive, cheap and simple not so much.

If you have a pre-2008 (?) 883 you can bore the cylinders and buy conversion pistons (Wiseco?). It is not necessary to have 1200 heads. I have a Hammer 1250 kit and use my stock 883 heads with no issues. Boring and Wiseco conversion pistons is probably the cheapest way to a 1200, with a 1250 kit probably a close second. Considering the Hammer kit comes all ready to go versus finding a machine shop to do the boring, honing, fitting pistons, gapping rings, etc. I guess it's up to you which would be cheapest path.

If you have a post 2003 bike, you'll also need to upgrade the clutch spring to a 1200 version.

incorrect with the head advice. Plenty of 1200/1250/1275 options out there that will work with 883 heads

Yes, it’s worth it and I believe it’s worth the extra cost to go Hammer 1250/1275.

The vast majority of 883 to 1200/1250/1275 conversions are done with the stock 883 heads. Changing to 1200 heads is neither mandatory, nor is it necessarily desirable. Many guys actually prefer the way the bike runs with the stock 883 heads. More on the bottom end.

The pictured bike is a 1991-2003, which is carbureted. Although a new ignition is recommended, he can get by with just an adjustment of his spark timing. The only other thing he needs is less that $10 worth of jets for his carb.

thank´s guys, i´ll look into this during wintertime and hopefully i can have a bit more power in the oldy but goldy little sporty by next riding season. The bike started life as a 1989 883 Hugger but the motor, wireharnes, speedo, fork, hand controlls, brakes and swingarm is from a 2000 Custom.
