I used an aluminum plate bolted to the fender struts, and then bolted the ammo can to the plate.

Since I'm not doing anything with the fenders until next week I took a couple of hours today and started on the NRHS 1250 conversion.
Removed front header
Removed front engine mount
Removed air cleaner system
Removed intake manifold
Removed rocker cover, rocker main, head & cylinder
Removed pushrod tubes and base
Taped off all connectors
Here's a few pics-
Cylinder is in nice condition
All cleaned up until the next time I have a couple of hours.

Thanks Ergo.
Ordered the Led Sled Contour rear fender yesterday. Gonna be a couple weeks before they get it to me.
Next up is getting the front fender fitted. Then I'll go back to the NRHS 1250 conversion.
Wish I had more time...lol...it was 55* here today and I had an appointment 20 miles away. Somehow I did over 100 miles getting there and back.

Got to spend a few hours on the bike today.
First thing was to get the new holes drilled in the front fender bracket.
Was able to get them 5/8" higher, which is what I was hoping for.
Now time to cut off the extra metal. Not worried about the paint, new paint is coming later.
Trimmed this much off.
Did a little smoothing up and rounding the corners. Better finish will come later, when prepping for paint.

Next was to remove the headlight and headlight brow. Got that done, and can now start brainstorming on a headlight bracket, and maybe a different headlight!
After that I pulled the rear top end off.
This is how it is sitting now...waiting for the next few hours I can spend on it.
Next week I will be pulling the valves out of the heads and prepping them for powder.

doing much the same with my 2000 sportster. keep picts coming. I haven't decided between struts or shocks and what I am doing with rear fender yet. Ther is a nice looking fender on ebay but it is plastic....don't know if it would hold up. Mine will be a solo rider so I don't have to make it strong enough for a passenger. A king peanut tank might solve your problem with the space under the rear of your tank.
