I can afford I Dyna and would not desire to do anywhere near as much to it as I would a Sporty, I'd do pipes, intake and maybe an aftermarket seat and be thrilled. The HD1 factory customization thing looks like an interesting route for a Dyna as well.
Screw the HD1 customisation dude...A dyna is to me a bit better ride than a Sporty, the frame is a bit bigger and handles great....

So your saying it would be better to get say a Street Bob bone stock and not use HD1 at all? Even for something simple like changing from the mini apes to the drags?

Tell me what you think please, all advice and opinions welcome good and bad!

2013 Iron 883- $8,000

Add Ons-

833-1200 Conversion- $1,200.00
HD Slotted Six Spoke Black Wheels 16R/19F- $850.00
V&H Black Short Shots- $480.00
Burly Black Slammer Kit- $300.00
RSD Black Ops Prostep Internal Wire Handlebars- $280.00
Chrome Glow Black Anodize LED Front Signals- $244.00
RSD Black Ops Headlight/Gauge Relocater- $250.00
Headwinds Black 1 3/8 Rear Turn Signals- $215.00
V&H Naked VO2 Air Kit- $140.00

Parts Total- $3,960.00
Bike Total- $11,960.00

All prices are from HD and J&P Catalog

I figure it's easier to have all of this added into my finance price rather than taking forever to save for it. I have very good credit and using the HD finance calculator I can stay under $300.00 a month easy. I will either use my own bank or HD, whomever offers me the best APR obviously and I will probably put around $2,000.00 down as well.

What do you think?

Good idea?
Bad idea?
Change some stuff up?
Is the 883R available to you?

Well, I'm the opposite of all this great advice you have gotten. I say if that's what you want and you can afford the payment GET IT !

What's wrong with instant gratification ? As long as your not going to be looking to trade it in or sell it in 2 or 3 years. No one is guaranteed tomorrow so you may as well enjoy life and get what you want today" Don't let some unknown person on a forum talk you out of what YOU want !

My wife wanted a Sportster all blinged up when she traded her Streetglide. We put so much stuff on it from the dealer that we nearly traded them even for the Streetglide. And they gave us a heckuva deal on the labor and it's all warranteed when installed at time of purchase. Now I do most of my own labor but at the time it saved me a lot of work having the dealer install all the parts she added.

And personally I own a Road King and a Sportster and I wouldn't trade the ride of the Sportster for any Dyna. I have ridden the Dyna's and I wouldn't trade you even up for any of the Dyna line of bikes.

Just remember that tomorrow it will still be an 883 worth prpbably less than $8000 (it's a used bike) and you will be VERY upside in your loan.

imma go a different route for you to think about...
dyna, sporty, custom.. whatever...

I love sportsters,,,,,, first and foremost....

ONLY, buy a sportster, because, thats what you want!!! if you buy a new 883 cause you think you can do the payment thing.... then you are throwing away money...
dont buy an 883 and put a 1200 kit in it.... waste.... buy a 1200.... pipes and tuner.... all the ot her stuff is a waste..

A dyna switch back.....great bike..... straight off hd.com, with 2000 down is 259ish per month.... already has removable bags and shield...
Finance your pips (Samason) and fuel manager into the bike.. do the rest in time and have an absolutely great bike to start with...
A STREETbob with 0 down was only 272 at 15.49 financing...
i just did 15,999 otd price.. ttt included mostly.... was only 292ish

Get a sportster if you want a sportster, if not, you will be unhappy, and have wasted a ton!!!

there is a surplus of used sporty 1200s, and dynas out there ready to be snatched up cheap, with most of the heavy lifting already done!!

It's a waste to buy an 883 and convert to 1200. Buy a 1200. I dont know you but from what you typed I'd say don't buy a Sportster. Your more a Dyna or Softail guy. Why? Because your talking making an 883 bigger. So Ill bet a 1200 won't satisfy you for very long. Better wait a little while longer and get a bike that will keep you happy the longest. Id say your a softail slim or something like and you will have 103 inches.

I've had six years to carefully select everything I like and would want to do to a bike so it's not just a spur of the moment thing. I really appreciate all of the advice and opinions.
Sounds to me like you're trying to talk yourself into making a bad financial decision. Half the parts you want haven't been out for more than a year or so, so I can't imagine you've been thinking about them for six years. A $300/month payment for a sportster is nuts. I put nothing down on mine a year ago bone stock and pay less than $130/month. I bought a lot mods in the last year for cash and I'm not paying interest on them.

It's your money, but this sounds like a real bad idea man. Sounds like you're gonna make the bad decision anyway though since everyone else already said the same stuff and you chose to explain why this is a good idea.

The only thing I can see that you have not considered is the SEAT. Stock sportster seats suck. As for the financing, expect HD financing to be upwards of 10% and probably closer to 18% no matter how good your credit scores are. You would be much better off using Navy Credit Union or your bank.
