I'll try to adjust them. Could this happen if they are not squared off? Or it's just a trial and error kind of thing? Hopefully I'll be able to notice the difference on a minute scale.
The sound without baffles before was really like a rolling rumble, very low tone. Now it's still a low tone, but a little higher and it's a bit more cut. Sounds more aggressive. I like it, it's just different. Now when I get pops they are more like loud puffs instead of a big loud pop.
Not sure how the longshots are, but even with these curved heat shields I was able to undo the metal straps and remove them without removing the actual exhaust pipes. You might be able to remove yours in similar fashion.
Maybe kevin knows more about the tone changes. But if you remove the baffles, you'll get louder and lower tone. For me putting the inserts in it got a little bit higher tone and a little bit lower volume. Which is fine for me, sounds good still. I think DK Customs recommends that removing the baffles, then inserting the TTIs is the best option most of the time.

They do not need to be "squared off" or centered to get the benefits. It is a matter of experimenting with the angle to achieve the sound you want and the best power.
These work equally well at improving power with or without baffles. Usually, without the baffles you will have more overall power, but if that is too loud, leaving the baffles in, and adding the TTI's will definitely increase the power, while lowering the tone a bit.
Here is a vid of 5 different bikes, the second bike still has the baffles in and he experienced a 10% increase in low & mid range power.
