Default Sportster solid back wheel OEM 41058-00A Query

I am going to fit this wheel in my 1999 XL but which side does the pulley fit? Each side has a cone shape that mounts the bolts, the base of the cone on one side is a larger diameter cone than the other. So which side do I mount the pulley? Thanks.

Good question old chap. That wheel is a universal fit and probably has sealed ball bearings, while your bike was supplied new with tapered roller bearings. If that is so, you will find your rotor and pulley will not fit as the central hole is not large enough to go over the bearing housings. It would be helpful if you can confirm that.

As for which side, if the threaded holes are different each side, the pulley fits on the side with the larger threads.
