Default 99 Sportster 883 question

Just bought a 1999 Sportster 883. I dont have the owners manual so I am unsure of how the oil light should behave. Shouldnt the oil light come on when the key is turned, then a few seconds later go out? My light never comes on.

Should I be concerned?

Thanks for any help.

I have a 98 883. I turn the key on the oil light stays on. When I start the bike the light goes off almost right away.

The light is there to inform you of an oil pressure problem. I'd be concerned riding around without this warning system. A blown engine could be the kiss of death for a bike.

Do your other lights come on. Neutral high beam?
