You need to consider two things, before deciding which tuner to go with. 1: do you intend installing it yourself and learning how to operate it? 2: would you prefer to have someone else tune your bike for you? If 2, then find that tuning shop and use whatever they recommend, no point buying the 'perfect' tuner if they won't/can't use it!

Found you one, these are the best! It's an old AudioVox tuner [type: FM] and the only type that will fit nicely under the seat of your '48 that won't cost you an arm and a leg. It piggybacks up to your existing tuner [type: AM, you do have one, correct?] and will work with virtually every intake and exhaust on the planet. With its onboard and user friendly frequency control you simply dial in your bike to the clearest channel and it will run at peak efficiency [over that of stock] gAr-on-tEEd, with the option of even more power if used in combination with a separate amp or "footwarmer."
Keep an eye out on your local CraigsList or eGay for deals on one of these bad boys.

I love my powervision. Its a lil pricey but it was worth it. It marries to your bike but you can get it unlocked to flash multiple bikes. The tuner has a great auto tune feature. Another cool thing is that it displays all kinds of information from your bike such as RPM, MPG, Gear, etc.
