Morning all y'all…. sounds like most of ya gots better weather than I do....been raining all week and cold....low 40's and the rain is cold. Called cable company and told them land line wasn't working. Wife and I been going back and forth on this. I give this phone number to everyone I don't really care to talk to. That way they can leave a message and they don't have my/our cell phone. She wants to save the monthly $$ we pay for this. We've had the same number for over 30 years, and a lot of places have it. Hate the thought of changing and using my cell number. But I digress.... Cable guy came in and said we had a short in a wire. We started talking and I told him what I had done, what I had checked, and what I thought. We are at the modem and I told him when you (cable company) hooked us up with phone ya ran cable from modem to here..... he said might be the issue. I said lets just run this new cable I bought from modem to outlet and check... he started to say something then stopped, said excellent idea, wish I thought of that! Checked it out and the old cable is at fault. changed the connectors out and it worked. I gave him a small LED flashlight as he was changing a connector in a dimly lit area and was struggling a bit to see... so I held the light, and gave it to him. Thanked him and we left. I went back to my La-Z-Denny and sat down when there was a knock at the door. Cable guy stood there waving at me. Said he was checking out and noted our return signal to their office showed a problem. So he started checking and changed out 3 tv's for the channel box, replaced the hook-up outside the house, and did a few other things. We had this all installed over 30 years ago, so it was old and outdated. He took real good care of us. We had some nice chats. And I kept thanking him and apologizing for making him work hard!! I think my attitude went a long way for him go that extra mile for us. So now the phone is back on line. Wife and I will spend some time "arguing" pros and cons on keeping land line. All tv's in the house have new control box, new controllers, new cable hook-ups, and work really well. So hoping we get another 30 years on this!!!
Sorry to bore you all, but that was part of my day yesterday. I won't tell you about cutting up Michigan State tee shirts so I can make a quilt for my daughter for Mothers Day (per wife's orders)….. something to occupy my time!!!

One of the early things I did when I went wifeless was dump the landline. I'd turned the ringer off previously, got 20-30 telemarketing calls every evening, made it mostly useless anyway. Also cut cable tv and just used dvds from Netflix (before it did streaming). Cell phone and Netflix was near $100 a month cheaper and wanted those anyway. I don't even have a phone line to the house anymore, took it down to drop a tree that had to come down across where it hung, and thought, why bother to put it back? It's still coiled up and hanging on another tree now.
