You should see the look on some of the old ladies faces.
After you read the information that is provided on the Website, You will have a better understanding of the meaning for the PGR. I somewhat doubt that you would make trouble. Standing there with the other riders you will know that there is pride in what you are doing and not in what the protesters are doing. You are smarter than they are.

I joined the PGR Friday evening and attended a mission on Saturday for a 21 year old Marine KIA in Irag. It was a great honor to attend and Stand the Flag Line for this soldier. It is one of those times in life that I will never forget.

The PGR members that I met were all great and made me feel welcome from the moment I met them.

How time flies!

The PGR is the fastest growing service organization of all times.

But, we are only 3 1/2 years old.

I am not real active but have been on a few rides to welcome veterans home and to funerals. No one is going to contact you it is very informal. You can sign up on the PG website read what is there and you will get email notifications of what they call missions. For myself I do not feel worthy of saying that I am going on a mission. I have not risked my life in the service of my country. I just ride and carry a flag in honer & respect to these brave people.

There is a Patriot Guard pig roast at Fatboys in East Bethel ( www.fatboysmn.com ) this Saturday, April 4th 2:00 to 4:00. The annal Gathering of the Guard will be in Ogden, UT this year, just before Sturgis. There will be some members there to discuss riding out there together.

I can't speak for other states, but the Wisconsin state PGR is excellent at sending emails regarding upcoming missions. Funeral planning is something that gives you little advanced notice, so be prepared for hearing/seeing the term 'short notice' on correspondence and most will be on weekdays.
Events such as 'welcome home' and parade or veteran's service projects give you enough notice to plan ahead.

How long does a typical "mission" last?

I have the luxury of being off work for a full week at a time and have been considering joining for a while.

Yosemite,

I wish there was a simple answer to your question. If you are asking about a Mission for a KIA. Escorts from the airport to the funeral home could take a few hours, depending on staging time, and length of escort. The wake, well I have seen them as short as 3 hours, and as long as 12.

Welcome Home Missions, could take a few hours, again depending on how the Mission was laid out.

Just keep in mind, that at any time during a mission, if other duties call, you can stand down. Together, doing as much as we can, we all make a difference.

Respects,
Ed
