The odometer on the bike cannot be trusted because it is influenced by the inaccurate speedometer on these bikes. The speedometers routinely read 3 to 6 miles faster than you are traveling and the odometers roll up more mileage than you have actually traveled. So you will think you are getting better fuel economy than you really are.
If you have a gps you can carry with you for about half a tank (or whole tank) of run time, use those gps miles, fill the bike back up, and do the math. That will give you the most accurate mpg figure.
Stock bikes using pure gas will get the best mileage...most of the time. Ethanol blended fuel will diminish fuel economy ....along with it's other detrimental properties.

Using a correction factor that my Gps and speedo differ by less than 2 mpg at 60 mpg, my over all average mpg would be 42.04 instead of the 42.9 I happily posted. Since I am only interested in relatives, I shall continue happily and in innocent bliss using my bikes trip meter, the gas pump volume and my app, knowing, but not recording that I am probably getting almost 2% less. But neither do I record passenger weight, camping stuff, road conditions, weather conditions or altitude. If I did, would I be happier, a more contented motorcyclist? Nope, just ride, use the stats in front of you and save your corrections for forum discussions on rainy winter days.

I started off in the spring at 48 mpg, by the end of season it was 51mpg.
Maybe the difference between a new back tire and worn down to 1/32 at the end of season?? Speeds mostly 55-65 mph.
2005 FLHRSI 95" se203's, se heads and a Baker OD6.

OK, I filled my tank last week. Rode the bike to work on Monday. On the way home, was not paying attention until I looked down and saw the low fuel indicator illuminated. Odometer showed 225 miles (I always reset when gassing up). Took the next exit off the highway and headed straight to a gas station. After proceeding through a traffic light the bike started sputtering and I coasted into the gas station. There was 229 miles on the odometer now. 229 divided by 5 gallons = 45.8 MPG.
Engine is bone stock 2005 88 with 106K miles. Still runs great. Usually I always gas up around 200 miles. Not bad.

I just got a 2008 FLHTCU in July. It only has a stage 1 done to it. I was getting around 38 in the city and 35 on the highway. Coming from mid 40's on my 2006 FLHR I was a little disappointed.
The bike has a super tuner on it also. I did the smart tune and that did not help. I wanted to improve the mileage so I decided to deceased the closed looped biased by 10 percent all around. The weather is turning crappy here by me so I have not been able to run a full tank to track the changes. I did take the bike for about a 20 mile ride after I changed the table and did not see any changes in the rideability.

i'm probably **** about recording my mileage and fuel at fillups for all my vehicles. i get anywhere between 38-43 mpg, depending on how i twist the throttle. i get @ 43 when cruising at 55-60 on the interstate but down to 38-40 when traveling at 70 or so. my 2010 got similar results and my 2005 yamaha 102 ci gets right around 40. beats the 18 mpg i get out of my ram 1500 so i commute with it every chance i get. just about ready to hit 29000 on the 2013 FLHTK with a stage one mod.

2012 CVO roadglde 120r. Freshly dynoed @132 ft lbs. Torque
Freeway for 120 miles avg speed 90 wth burst to triple digits
Avg 30 to 32.
Backroads at 55 60 mph. Avg 43
Its all about trottle position and speed
The faster you go the more fuel it takes.
If i run normal around 70. Its about 38 with ethanol fuel. Slightly higher with real gas
