As long as we're happily discussing Snell, ECE and DOT, this video should be entered into the thread:
FWIW, I do happen to be one of those with the diffuse, but rather profound, brain injuries from too hard a helmet in a rather minor motorcycle crash.
Would I want a Snell helmet in a race car with a roll cage? Yes.
Do I want one for a motorcycle crash? No. I'd much rather import a helmet from Europe with an ECE standard.
But that's just me.

I have a bridge for sale by the way… just imagine you could put a toll on one side if you owned it. We should talk. Bring your $5,000 helmet, I’m sure it fits so much more comfortably that you can’t stand to be un comfortable when you take it off.. my bridge is really nice.

Hhmm...from the https://smf.org/faq
"Are Snell helmets too hard?
The short answer is 'No.' Snell certified motorcycle helmets are also subject to local requirements. Snell Certified helmets sold in the U.S. cannot be any harder than DOT allows and Snell Certified helmets sold in Europe and many other places cannot be any harder than permitted by ECE 22-05."

I'll stick to "knowing", from my antiquated research that above a price point, no more protection is available. But the comfort in wearing a properly fitted helmet is what costs more. I paid $550 for my Arai Regent-X helmet a few months ago for my winter and weather helmet. I wear a Shoei RJ Platinum the rest of time.

While you’re right about the Star being the first full faced helmet, it came out in 63, and was a remarkably ugly thing.
