Dino oil that meets the specs in the owner's manual, from off the shelf at WalMart. I do run 75-140 in the tranny...

SWThomas
you had me going. I said now I am screwed. I don't know which is the top hole and the bottom hole until I finished your thread. I am a little simple minded. You got me. I am a jerk

I guess there is something for everybody.
I drive in hot climates and in cold.

I appreciate all the posts. I think I have this figured out.
I love you guys man. Not in a gay manner, although I am not bashing the gays, but man on man is a no go and could make me puke, but whatever floats your boat. I don't want to know. On the other hand, two babes and you got my interest

SWThomas
thank you for your service to our country

thanks again

Here's a great tip on searching: use Google and restrict your search to hdforums.com

Example of how to do this is to type in the following at google.com:

"primary oil site:hdforums.com"

To see how it works copy and paste that text without the quotes into the search at Google.

Much much better than the lame forum search tool.

Thanks for the tip Keithhu. I had no idea... hate the forum search feature.

Personally I think it should be a sticky at the top of every forum, title in all caps, but what the hell do I know?

Crazy thing about the Quicksilver oil at Walmart. All the stores in my town put the V-Twin oil with the boat marine engine oils and not the motorcycle oils (on a different isle). Someone at WM does not have a clue!
I quit using quicksilver in my boat when it went up to 14 bucks a quart. Went to Mobil 1 15-50 at $6.99 My $140.00 oil change dropped to $70.00

the primary "hole" is the only place the v twin stuff goes in(v twin=clutch safe) motor oil "hole" gets motor oil, gearbox "hole' gets gear lube.

Not sure how many people posting here have an oil temp gauge but I did on my last bike with a 98 motor.

I ran Royal Purple 20/50 and temps on a 90 degree day down the highway at 70 mph never got over 230. 2 up and loaded.

I tried the Lucas 20/50 motorcycle oil and temps hit 245 basic same conditions. Dumped it right away and went back to Royal Purple. If I could get Redline oil locally I would have tried it as well.

I do use the Lucas 20/50 in my primary and I change it every other oil change. I do my oil changes every 3500 miles.

I run Redline shockproof in the tranny and change it every 10,000 miles. It looks like new when I dump it and the trans shifts like butter.

There's a lot of good stuff out there but I swear buy the Royal Purple based on my oil temps trying different oils.
