I have a pair of leather overpants I wear over jeans when it's cold. I can't stand chaps. Too cold. Make all the Village People jokes you want, but my boys are warm when the weather's not. When the weather gets too warm I have a pair of Carhart jeans that usually do the trick. The leather pants are always in the saddle bags because you never know in the PNW.

its funny but the village people worejeans and leathers

In the UK, if you wore chaps you would be shot for being gay.

I definitely wear 'em.
If not leather pants, then leather chaps over my pants, and when summer arrives soon, it'll be leather chaps over my shorts.
Then again, I've always worn leather pants, years before I ever rode a bike. I'm just odd that way. I used to gig in them back when I was fronting a band, which is not all that common for a female singer I guess. But just like alot of rock n roll headbangers, I think there's just something primal about the feel of leather and the sleekness of black leather particularly - it embeds a tiny bit of "don't-F-with-me" attitude in the psyche of the wearer.

I've heard some people say leather riding gear is a bit safer than just riding in denim jeans. I tend to agree. I think it's the best road-wear.
(and the absolute opposite of that would be, "squid-wear"...dipsticks who tool around in flip flops and bermuda shorts on their bikes. Yes, squids out here ride like that all the time. Hello? Road rash, party of one, your table is ready....)

ANYWAY....so, yeah, I say "Rock on, leather wearers."

Chaps only when cold - no leather pants. If you stop somewhere for any length of time, you are stuck in those hot leather pants. Chaps you can take off.

I've got both and use them depending on the weather.
How come so many people are experts on the village people line of clothing?
I never bothered to memorize what they had on. (just kidding guys)

Default It makes me look like a poser !

I am an average guy with no tats and short beard (grey) and though I have a real Harley Jacket, Chaps, and boots I don’t wear it unless it’s really cold out. As for leather pants I don’t care for them. Insulated jeans work just as well on cold days and chaps if needed over that and liner in the jacket. I do have a leather vest my wife gave me as a present but don’t wear it because I feel like it’s too much even without any patches or badges on it. I just like to ride and dress as needed to be comfortable. I don’t want to look like a poser or one of the Village People.
If I see you in your leathers it’s fine. If I look at your left boot and there is no shifter wear spot then I figure you are just dressing up ! Tired of women in traffic looking over at me and clutch their purse, roll up,the window and locking the door !
