Thanks for all the replies.
I forgot to add that I pulled the dip stick and everything seemed ok.
Oil was a nice dark amber color with no signs of metal particles or dirt.
Engine runs but makes no noise indicating a lack of oil pressure, previous owner sold bike because he did not verify oil pressure or lack of.
Seems too good to be true, but stranger things have happened.
Well, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
The owner stated he is about to have another baby and didn't even want to spend for the $800 diagnostic the dealer was charging only to find out he needed to spend another $5000 to get it fixed. The guy is in the Navy and didn't look to be more than 25 years old. As we were looking at the bike, his parents rolled in (from church probably) so I'm guessing he is currently living with his parents - not that there is anything wrong with that. He was a really nice guy actually. But I too am trying to revisit all the details of the event to try and put a finger on the pulse of the situation.
No noise and you actually heard it run? I suspect that you just stole it. Just find out why it's not indicating oil pressure. Pop off a pushrod clip and start it again. You'll know quickly enough!
Id pull the oil pressure sender and do a quick start, if you have a oil press, its an indication problem. No Oil, pull the cam chain drives and ck the pump, cam tensioners, and lifters while there.
Making deals like that will keep him living with his parents. Congratulations! Good luck with the project.
Deals like that are the least of his problems. 25, 2nd child, and living with parents. I know most of us have fallen on hard times, and may have needed help.
There is a whole line of logic here I can't follow.
