Does anyone know if the pre 14 water bottle holder works with the 24 oz hydro flask?
I have a 2011 with the H-D leather water bottle holder. Based on this thread I ordered the 24 oz hydro flask (and sport lid) from Amazon and got it yesterday. It fits in the leather holder perfectly. Here is a photo of the bottle in the holder.
My guess is that the difference b/w the pre-14 and post-14 holders is in the shape of the saddlebag guard and thus the attachment points, not the size of the water bottle holder itself.

Thanks thats exactly what I wanted to find out. And to the fitment of the holder, I took mine of of a 09 and put on my 16 rk and fits just fine. Now I'm off to get that hydro flask that everyone's talking about, thanks again.
I use one of these too, keeping it in a hog trough holder mounted on the lowers. I put 4 ice cubes in it and fill it with water. If I don't drink it first, I have cold or at least cool water until around 2-3 in the afternoon. Been using one for about 6 years now. I rode last Saturday about 250 miles. I didn't drink all my water, had coffee for breakfast, and diet sodas for lunch. The next day my legs ached when I was standing and I was exhausted. Sunday after church I started drinking water and within a couple of hours was fine. Showed me how important it is to drink water when riding. I got severely dehydrated while in Kenya, Africa about 6 years ago. I was sick as a dog for about 12 hours. Even though I started drinking water it still took about 12 more hours before I started feeling human again. I'll never do that again and learned last weekend again even when it is not extremely hot to stay hydrated.
While not mounted externally, I keep a small insulated soft side lunch bag in my saddle bag or tour pack. I also always keep a couple of frozen plastic water bottles in my freezer. Before leaving for a ride, I usually toss a couple of refrigerator cold water bottles in the bag along with the 2 frozen bottles. The frozen bottles keep the non-frozen bottles cold. By the time those are gone, the frozen bottles have started to melt and I have ice water again. This method generally keeps me in cold water all day.
i just bought the 24oz for my trip into wyoming montana and idaho....kept my water cold for as long as it was in there....fits in my guard bag loop perfectly ..
I've now used mine twice since this thread prompted me to buy one. Once it was around 100 and once in the high 90's. 7-8 hours later, the water was still cold and there were still remnants of the ice cubes I put it in the morning. A great purchase!
