brake and clutch wear are usually an issue...... Aside from that, all of the motor cops I know are as **** about their Dept ride, as they are their personal ride.

When the MoCo announced 103 for the P spec bikes lasat year, my first comment was those bikes will be in demand for the motor.

Like any used vehicle, it depends on who owned/operated it.

There are departments that get these bikes on lease from MoCo for next to nothing.. I've heard single digit lease payments and then use them for funeral escorts and the like. They are turned in with low miles. THose are the bikes you want to gravitate to.

Look it over closely, look for damage in the neck, find the one with the least amount of body damage..scratches and the like.

These bikes are a blank canvas. I like the blacked out engine and chrome extras you don't get on the EG standard that are on the P spec bikes. At least this was the case before 07, I can't say for a fact the 07's have the better esthetics.

Slap a PC111 and a set of cams in it, slip ons and you are off to the races.

Some dealers have Police Demo bikes, which can be sold after 6 months I believe. Probably better off trying to get one of these (almost new) PD bikes.

Many times (most PD) lease the bike for 10K miles or so. Just like the lesae on a car, they are serviced by the dealer to book specs and get all the upgrades/recalls/etc. necessary to keep them to factory standards. I have a police bike and love it. Its a great deal...money wise, especially if you want to do some of your own wrenching and custom work.
I would definately buy another PD bike when i decide to get a newer bike.

If the money is right, police bikes are a smokin' deal. They are usually low mileage, andthey have been exceptionally well maintained and taken care of.

I've seen some great prices on low-mileage police bikes...I think they are one of the best bargains forsomeone looking to buy a used HD.

I ride one at work. I wouldn't want most of them myself after they came out of service.....Lots of cold start jack rabbit take offs, lots if idling, lots of stop and go traffic, lots of curb jumping and so on....My department uses them as a tool. We don't baby them.

The one bike we have in my town was leased to the township from Lancaster H-D for 1 dollar a year. It is maintained the same as any other bike would be by the dealership. As far as I know, the bike sees very little abuse. I see the cop around town from time to time, and a few times he stopped and talked to me while I was washing my bike. The cops who use the bike are very meticulous about its maintenence and appearance.
