Redline Vtwin gear oil with Shockproof - 42804
Ok, so I tried out this Redline Synthetic Gear oil (vtwin transmission oil). Not impressed by the colour but then again, should I spring a leak somewhere in the gearbox, I'll know about it. Cold I see no difference. The first gear clunk is still there however when hot and sitting at a light if I pop it into neutral, it appears a "tad" quieter going back in. Where I do see a big difference is going into fourth gear. That I can attest to is quieter by a long shot. So maybe its me and wishfull thinking, neutral engaging is subjective too. I guess it cant hurt but wow with tax, $30 Canadian.

I run it in all of big twins for years and have nothing but good things to say. Shifts like butter and quiets things down considerably. It needs to be run for a awhile to really notice a difference. In fact, I switched to running Red Line in all three holes in all of my bikes because of my experiences with the trans lube. Sure it smells like a$$ but the results speak for themselves. My 2 cents....

What were you running before? Early on I tried several 75W-140 gear lubes in the transmission and noticed little difference in clunking and in finding neutral (always a bit cranky). Tried Spectro 6 speed and that improved things considerably, softened the clunks and neutral was easier to find. Finally tried Red Line Heavy Shockproof and it seemed little different in results from the Spectro 6 Speed. The Red Line was the last thing I tried and I stuck with it more out of inertia than any improved performance. I liked the Spectro and Red Line better than Mobil 1 syn 75W-140, Royal Purple, Amzoil and Valvoline, all syn 75W-140s.

The "Clunk" is caused by the clutch not completely disengaging. This can be due to your clutch adjustment or a high level of primary lube. It gets better when the bike is hot because the primary lube is thick when cold. The newer models have a hydraulic clutch with a longer actuator travel and the clunk is gone. With the older bikes, proper clutch adjustment and correct primary lube level is about all that can be done and they will still clunk. Redline oil is very good ,imo.

I'm not buying into the hype, but thought I would add my 2 cents.
When I replaced the final drive gear, I used shockproof. after buttoning everything up I notice a very small pink fluid on the floor. sure a ever, the oil seal leaked not from the rubber side but from the metal exterior of the seal and internal orifice of the final drive gear. MF pain in my A!
Anyways, I did appreciate know immediately where to begin looking for the leak. As for any improvement, I didn't feel jack ish.
