load ultra classic into a 2016 F250 SD 4x4 8' bed
 

the truck is stock but sits real high with tow and plow packages from ford factory. I have the three arched ramp system but am getting old for riding up. Looking for best on the market to load the bike safely without being on it. Must be able to remove the loader easily as we tent in the back of the truck. Also prefer not to drill holes or bolt anything into the new truck. Any ideas? Best ~M

X2 on trailer.. You could pay for a trailer for the damage you would cause to you or the bike if it fell.

Smaller, open utility trailers are also less expensive than some of the loaders I've seen. I picked mine up used for like $300. They also give more room for hauling camping supplies.

Although I have had a RK in the back of my truck, I would never consider putting my 820 pound bagger in there.

To get the RK in the back of my truck, I modified the trailer I use to haul my bagger so I could put ramps from the trailer to the bed (with the tailgate removed).

But to go from ground level into the back of my truck? No way. I'd have my friend do it from the ramp truck first.

In the bed of the truck I had a 3/4 inch thick piece of plywood with a Condor wheel chock bolted to it, and then I used the Ford factory tie down points and ratcheting straps with soft loop straps to secure the bike.

It is all about strapping the thing down securely

I have a 6 1/2 x 10 tilt bed trailer I use. As far as putting a RK in a pickup bed I don't see the difference between that and a 820 lb "bagger". 2014 Road King weighs 814 lbs in running order according to HD website. I'd still never try it. Did put a new 2012 Super Glide in a Ranger bed once. That was an adventure. Like most others said....just get a small trailer that pulls well.

Trailer would be a simple easy safe solution.

Me, I'd leave the truck and tent at home, ride the bike there and stay in a hotel.

I have a friend that does something like that. Loads his Sportster into his long bed Chevy to drive to Daytona. He has a tall berm in front of his shop and uses that to load. When he gets there he has a spot with another berm where he unloads. It's always seemed hit or miss finding a place to unload if you go somewhere unfamiliar.
Trailers are just so much easier, more versatile and way, way safer.
