Default Oil Tempature

07 Ultra....After running at highway speeds the dip stick oil tempature guage indicates 243 degrees (on an 80 degree day). Is this excessly hot?

That's how hot my FLHX ran going 90 mph for 100 miles at a time on our last trip. I don't think that's to hot but what's it going to run in 95 deg heat? I installed the oil cooler this weekend and it looks like it cut the temps down by 15 to 20 deg.

another question...does removing the lower fairings allow for lower oil tempatures?

If not already using synthetic oil switch over to it. Amsoil, Royal Purple, Mobile 1, Red Line are all good. It will reduce oil temp some. How many miles are on your scoot? When they are brand new they tend to run hotter till they get broke in a bit.

That temp is ok. As suggested go ahead and do the oil cooler and run Synthetic. If your using a SERT you can richen up the AFR which will get you some cooling and turn on the temp control function which will help out @ idle

may be ok for you 07 guys but if my bike ran that hot I would take it apart and fix it.I run 220 on a 95-98 degree day here in florida with my engine mods.

I run with Amsoil and have a Temp dip stick. The stick always reads between 190 and 220 degrees.
