After "He noticed the right muffler missing...", everything else was "blah, blah, blah..."

You can do serious damage to an engine riding it that long without a muffler. Have it checked out.

Sounds like it might be sumping. Did the oil level read the same on the stick when they got it back to the dealership the second time? If not did they check the crankcase for the missing oil.

I have no idea of the oil level or anything. I rented a car and headed home and they said they would tear into it on Monday. I haven't gotten a response to phone calls or e-mails all week. I contacted sales service and the owner. Not even a hey we aren't touching it. Today I contacted the better business bureau and harley to try and find out what's going on. If the missing muffler can cause engine damage why not tell me that? I would have left it. Anyway I guess it's all just a guess as to what the original problem was and maybe never know. There were no oil leaks the first time. He said the oil burns off.

Agreed, GTK...OP, be advised that the BBB has NO authority to mitigate your problem...it's another form of a 'chamber of commerce ' and is only a 'feel goof' organization

This whole story raises so many questions and red flags that I find myself disbelieving most of it.

Really the best start of a crazy *** thread in a while. Got more beer on ice and I can't wait.

I understand that. At this point I just want to know what's going on with it. Obviously they don't want to talk to me about it. Hoping someone will get any answer from them. I don't want to drive 2 1/2 hours just to hear we aren't touching it. I'll get a truck to pick it up and bring it home. It's very telling that Kojak said the missing muffler can cause serious engine damage, but I was never told that or does it say it on the repair order, but when the sales manage said I was told not to drive it sounds like trying to covering their butt. I was all set to just trade it there and be done until he said that. Thanks again for your input. It's a small thing in the big picture. I've survived being left in the desert in 110 heat and stuck out in -50 wind chill cold. This ain't nothin'. lol
